Bexleyheath’s Military Weekend
Locals braved the weather last weekend for a celebration of Armed Forces Day with a series of events throughout the town centre. Bexleyheath Military Weekend, which this year honoured the centenary of the Battle of the Somme, featured a heritage military and emergency service vehicle display and stalls with organisations such as the Royal British Legion. There were re-enactments and historical talks with a display of past times footage and homage to the centenary of the Battle of the Somme. The faces of local soldiers who died in the battle were displayed in a poignant reminder of sacrifices of families in our area.
On Sunday the Mayoral Civic Parade passed through Bexleyheath Town featuring more than 200 participants from across the borough including the Army, Army Cadets, RAF and Police Cadets. After a service at Christ Church and address by the Mayoress at the Clock Tower crowds were entertained by vintage styled singer Miss Em.
Many thanks to all who were involved and came to support the Military Weekend, it was incredible to see people of all ages coming out to remember those fallen and commemorate our Military history.
