Discover A Treasure Trove On The Broadway
Finding unusual gifts for our friends and family members can often prove difficult, but if your loved ones enjoy beautiful and unusual homeware, jewellery and clothing, worry no more… We meet the team behind The Emporium who have just been named as finalists in the Bexley Business Excellence Awards 2016.
Local independent stores are the heart of our high street and The Emporium is an impressive addition to the Broadway. The creation of two uber-talented women, Jane and Veronica, The Emporium’s India Rose offers a collection of exclusive hand-made designs and gift ideas to customers looking to buy something a little different. Through their assortment of recycled, retro and vintage products, this gifted duo presents a range of rather unusual, yet eye-catching products. Their East of India collection is a sight to behold; replete with hand-made wooden products of epoch-making splendour, India Rose oozes creativity. It is, perhaps this innovativeness that has led to their business being shortlisted for the finals of the Bexley Business Excellence Awards 2016.
As a way of celebrating the unmatched growth of south London’s dynamic business community, the Bexley Business Excellence Awards is an annual event that recognises the achievements of some of the region’s most inspirational entrepreneurs and businesses. The event features 14 award categories in total, including Independent Retailer of the Year and Best Start-up Business. Amongst hundreds of other businesses which have submitted their entries for this year’s awards, The Emporium’s India Rose has been shortlisted for the category of Independent Retailer of the Year.
According to Councillor Linda Bailey, the London Borough of Bexley’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Growth, this year’s entries are double the amount of entries received for last year, a testament to the rising success of Bexley’s business community. “This is an amazing number of entries for the 2016 awards and shows just how well our Bexley businesses are faring,” she commented. “The independent adjudicators were hugely impressed by the standard of entries. I would like to congratulate the shortlisted businesses and wish them good luck for the next stage.” Jane from The Emporium tells “It was suggested to us by various people we should enter the for the award. We didn’t really dare to think we may come this far, but to be a finalist is such great news. We are all so excited and now we want to win! It feels wonderful for our business to be recognised in this way.” Town Centre Manager Tony Garratt when speaking of The Emporium’s achievement so far said “ It is fantastic to have such a popular and unique retailer here in Bexleyheath. It is an honour to be shortlisted as a finalist and hopefully will inspire more independent retailers to reach for similar success and recognition. Their memorable window displays and unusual collections are a huge talking point and their achievement so far makes our town incredibly proud”.
The next step involves all shortlisted candidates to be invited to submit a second round application by 8th April before the judging day interviews take place at the Thames Innovation Centre (TIC) on 20th April.
