Sunday Parking zone changes postponed
Sunday Parking Zone changes postponed
We are pleased to report that following our campaign against the introduction of Sunday parking restrictions in Bexleyheath Town Centre, we have now been informed that for the time being, Bexley council have decided against these changes.
Informal consultations on possible changes to the operational hours of the Bexleyheath Town Centre Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) were undertaken in May 2016 and specific changes were formally proposed on 8th March 2017, the closing date for comments and objections was the end of March. The responses were reviewed and detailed in a report to the Cabinet Member for Traffic and Transport and a decision has been made on how to proceed.
The proposal was to change the hours of operation of the waiting restriction and parking places within the CPZ to include Sundays, the Cabinet Member has decided not to make changes at this time. The Cabinet Member was concerned that the full implications of the proposed changes could be distorted by the current phase of Bexleyheath Town Centre Revitalisation scheme. Whilst work proceeds through the various stages of the 15-month construction programme from January 2017 to February / March 2018, parking activity in and around the town is likely to have been, and continue to be affected. In addition, new charges at public car parks effective from 5th September 2017 may further impact upon parking patterns on roads around the town centre.
The Cabinet Member has decided the matter should be reviewed after the impact of these factors has allowed town centre users to settle into a regular routine. We are pleased with the updates so far and will continue to keep our member’s wishes and needs at the forefront of our work here at Bexleyheath BID.
